Contractor Position Summary

The Fund seeks qualified applicants to provide services to GFEMS in the capacity of Senior Technical Advisor, Private Sector Engagement in Brazil. The Senior Technical Advisor will support the development and execution of private sector activities in Brazil for US Government funded projects. This work may include conducting private sector landscape assessments, financial and economic analysis, and business case development for private sector engagement, brokering public-private partnerships, structuring innovative financing and blended financing mechanisms that engages commercial sector and investors, and developing institutional capacity of private organizations.

 

The Senior Technical Advisor will contribute to business development efforts, as needs arise, related to private sector activities.

 

The Senior Technical Advisor will also monitor and report to GFEMS on relevant local anti-trafficking events, trends, and dynamics within the private sector in Brazil, and support local stakeholder engagement, as directed by GFEMS.

Please Note: This position is contingent upon project award and funding.

Responsibilities may include:

Provide technical support related to GFEMS’ work in the Brazilian agricultural sector, and others where necessary, including desk-based research, quantitative analysis (e.g. costing), health market analysis, economic model development, and commercial sector and investor partnership building;

Undertake scoping of projects relating to transformative private sector initiatives; provides analytical and evaluative techniques to identify, consider, and resolve issues or problems; uses various quantitative and qualitative techniques to perform private sector policy analyses;

Provide anti-slavery strategic and technical expertise to the private sector, training organizations, and development agencies in Brazil

Inaugurate and facilitate partnerships between private sector bodies, training institutions, governments, civil society, bilateral initiatives and GFEMS;

Represent GFEMS in specific technical meetings and fora, including coordination meetings with partners, clients and other stakeholders;

Monitor private sector activities that relate to human trafficking and identifying opportunities for new or enhanced GFEMS engagement of private sector entities in Brazil;

Formulate strategic ideas and innovative solutions to reduce forced labour across the private sector in Brazil.

Support capacity building and knowledge sharing within GFEMS on private sector engagement and investments.

Participate in business development efforts, as required and appropriate.

Perform other related duties and responsibilities as assigned

This is a 2-year contract opportunity. The Senior Technical Advisor will be expected to be able to communicate with GFEMS headquarters in the Washington, DC area periodically, including during Eastern Standard Time business hours.

Required Experience/Qualifications

8+ years’ experience in agricultural supply chains, finance, marketing and communication, consulting, international development, or other related fields in Brazil

Bachelor’s degree in relevant field. Advanced degree preferred

Fluency in Portuguese and in English, in verbal and written communications

Understanding of the commercial sector in Brazil, including local regulatory capacity, policy, incentives, and business enabling environment, factors influencing foreign direct investment and access to finance/ capital, human resources/ technical capabilities, and cost competitiveness.

Experience working with/ for commercial companies and/or investors, especially in the Brazilian agricultural context, is highly desirable.

Work or lived experience in human trafficking or a related field (e.g., migration, labor, victim welfare) or in a related humanitarian or international development assistance field would be desirable.

Past work experience managing US Government- or other donor-funded projects.

Robust network across international development and/or private sector agricultural industry, strong networking skills, and track record of working collaboratively with multi-disciplinary teams

Entrepreneurial mindset and project management skills; able to work independently and effectively

Strong organization and interpersonal skills

Ability to work under political and time pressure and meet deadlines

Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite and Google Drive applications

Eligibility to live and work as an independent contractor in Brazil
