Founded in 2002, Smart Love Family Services is a nonprofit organization that provides services based on the Smart Love® principles. Smart Love is an innovative and scientifically validated approach to child development, counseling and parenting. The Smart Love approach and philosophy were developed by two Chicago-based, nationally recognized experts, Martha Heineman Pieper, Ph.D. and the late William J. Pieper, M.D. Since its inception, Smart Love has been endorsed by scholars and leading child development experts around the world.
Based on their research, the Piepers’ advanced an evidence informed theory called “Intrapsychic Humanism.” Their most important discovery is a new understanding of child development that explains both how children can grow up to achieve the capacity to experience a stable, pleasurable inner well‐being that will see them through life’s ups and downs and allow them to make good choices in all areas of their lives, and also explains how and why people develop inner unhappiness and what is the most effective therapeutic approach.
Smart Love operates with a budget of approximately $3.3M, a staff of approximately 40 full- and part-time professionals, and its three primary programmatic pillars: Counseling, Smart Love Preschools and Therapeutic Tutoring. The organization serves individuals and families in Chicago and in Oak Park and the Western Suburbs. The mix of earned revenue is 75% generated from fee for service counseling and 25% from preschool tuition. Additionally, funds are raised through an annual gala coupled with gifts from individual donors and foundations. Philanthropic support enables the organization to provide financial aid and support programmatic initiatives. Smart Love Family Services is run by balancing responsible business principles with the dynamics of providing necessary nurturing and support to staff, clients, families and children.
The President, reporting to the Board of Directors, is responsible for the strategic processes of the organization, developing and executing its strategic plan and policies, delivery and maintenance of its programs, fiscal management, revenue growth, private philanthropy and all components that support program delivery and overall organizational well-being. The President oversees budget development and all fiscal activities including securing the operating funds (earned and contributed) necessary to sustain current and future operations. The President drives all strategic efforts including initiating and maintaining expansion efforts, fundraising, and external relations.
Smart Love Family Services is seeking a highly competent, compassionate, mission-driven business leader with a proven track record in building brand awareness and scaling organizations.
